It Feels Like Spring, Sort Of

In Cheyenne, Wyoming and surrounding areas we have been experiencing a roller coaster of weather and temperatures. While last week we saw beautiful weather in the high 60s, this week we had yet another heavy snowstorm. April is always a fun month of unexpected weather here in Southeastern Wyoming.

While the weather keeps us on our toes for what kind of shoes to put on our toes; snow boots, rain boots or sandals, SERVPRO of Cheyenne is continuously monitoring the National Weather Services forecast. We are always making sure we are prepared as possible for whatever weather Mother Nature is planning for us.

With spring here, the snow will begin to turn to rains. With the rains and higher temperatures come the snow melting. With the snow melting comes the potential for flooding.

If you find yourself with rain or water coming into your home, please keep in mind these safety tips:

*as quickly as you are able to, move all the contents to a higher level or garage area

*test your sump pump to make sure it is working

*call SERVPRO of Cheyenne at 307-514-9011 to help mitigate your loss as quickly as possible

Spring is Officially Here!!

4/4/2019 (Permalink)

Do you really know how deep the water is?

We here in Cheyenne know what that means: unpredictable weather!

We all know how it goes, one day it is a beautiful, sunny day, 70 degrees out; then the next day? Snow or hail storm. As the saying goes, “if you don’t like the weather in Cheyenne, wait 15 minutes.”

As we are finally starting to warm up here in “The Magic City of the Plains”, we need to be aware that all that snowfall we had will be melting, and melting snow can lead to spring flooding.

Here at SERVPRO®  of Cheyenne, we want you to be as prepared as possible. Here are some great tips from FEMA to keep your family, your home, your business and your finances protected.

Spring Flood Tips

Be Prepared

First and foremost, be prepared! Have a family evacuation plan in place. Practice your family emergency plan. Plan and practice flood evacuation routes from home, work, and school that are on Make sure that your important papers and any valuables are kept in a safe and dry place.

Download our SERVPRO Ready Plan App. https://ready.SERVPRO.com/Home/MobileApp

With our app, you can keep all of your important numbers: family, insurance, utility company and all major contacts in one place. It will be accessible to you whenever and wherever you need, with your smartphone or computer.

Insurance

Homeowner’s insurance will not cover floods!

If you want your home protected, you must purchase a separate policy for flood protection.

While flood damage is not typically covered in a standard homeowner’s policy, you do have options. The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) flood insurance is available for renters, homeowners, as well as businesses as a special policy that is federally backed by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This federal program is managed by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Administration). The NFIP allows property owners in participating communities to buy insurance to protect against flood losses. In order for a homeowner to be able to purchase excess flood insurance, they must be covered by NFIP flood insurance first.

An average flood policy costs around $600 a year and rates start at just $129 a year for homes in moderate-to-low-risk areas.

For more information, Visit floodsmart.gov (or call 1-800-427-2419) to learn more about individual flood risk, explore coverage options, and to find an agent in your area or the Wyoming Insurance Department (www.doi.wyo.gov) or at 1-307-777-7401.

Stay Alert While Driving

Avoid flooded streets. It is a simple rule to follow, if the roadway is submerged, do not travel on that road. You have no way of knowing how deep the water is. If the roadway is flooded, turn around.

After a Flood

Always Check for damage.

Before you re-enter your home, check for any structural damage. If at any point you suspect that your water, gas, electric, or sewer lines have been damaged, CONTACT THE AUTHORITIES.

Once you have established it is safe to return to your home; remove wet contents immediately. According to FEMA, wet carpeting, furniture, bedding, and any other items holding moisture can develop mold within 24 to 48 hours.

Call SERVPRO® of Cheyenne at 307-514-9011 to extract any standing water and to mitigate any mold growth, to clean and disinfect everything touched by floodwaters. Our franchise professionals have the training and experience to make flood damage “Like it never even happened.”
