A snowman wearing SERVPRO green colors in the snow Winter is here! Are YOU ready?

SERVPRO of Cheyenne for when winter weather hits.

Winter is here and freezing temperatures have arrived. Cold weather, winter storms, snow, chilling winds, and ice storms can cause massive damage to your home and/or business. The moment this happens, immediate action is the key to prevent additional or graver damage to your property.

Top causes of winter storm damages:

  1. Roof Failure: This can be caused by snow and ice. The weight of snow or ice can fluctuate based on humidity levels, type of snow and ice, and time (how long the snow and ice stay on the roof).
  2. Frozen Pipes: Freezing temperatures can cause the pipes to freeze and once those temperatures warm-up, pipes can burst and cause water damage.
  3. House Fires: Maintenance of furnaces, heaters, dryers, and fireplaces are extremely important. As well as proper use of space heaters and extension cords.

If you experience any of these things. Call us, SERVPRO of Cheyenne has the experts, the experience, and the resources to help!

Let us make your worse moment “Like it never even happened.”

Tis the Season, for Hail!

Tis the Season, for Hail!

Here in southeast Wyoming, we are all too familiar with hailstorms! I’m pretty sure we all wish we weren’t as familiar as we are. One of the prices we pay to live in the best state! Now, we know we are part of Tornado Alley, but did you know that we are also in Hail Alley? From Weather.com “The area where Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming meet is known as “hail alley” and it averages seven to nine hail days per year, according to NSSL.”

How does hail form? Well, per NOAA.gov “Hailstones are formed when raindrops are carried upward by thunderstorm updrafts into extremely cold areas of the atmosphere and freeze. Hailstones then grow by colliding with liquid water drops that freeze onto the hailstone's surface. https://www.nssl.noaa.gov/education/svrwx101/hail/#:~:text=Hailstones%20are%20formed%20when%20raindrops,freeze%20onto%20the%20hailstone's%20surface.

Hail can vary between being a nuisance to outright scary and dangerous. It could cause little dents in cars and small cracks in building windows. It could also leave damage, such as holes and shattered windows in cars and buildings. There is also the possibility you could wind up with secondary damage from water leaking into the building.

If you have hail damage to your home or business, SERVPRO of Cheyenne is here for you. Call us right away so we can stop any additional damage from happening. We want to make it “Like it never even happened.”

Lightning in Cheyenne!

7/31/2017 (Permalink)

Summer Time in Cheyenne
Here in Cheyenne, it is the middle of summer. With summer comes thunderstorms and with thunderstorms comes lightning. In fact, all thunderstorms produce lightning!

Lightning Damage

Lightning can cause damage to humans, the environment, and structures alike. Lightning is the number one cause of death from natural disasters yearly.  For safety reasons, when thunderstorms hit, it is best to stay inside and away from windows. If you can’t get inside, try to get to a vehicle and/or stay away from trees.

Damage to the Environment

Lightning can reach temperatures of up to 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Due to temperatures this high, lightning is known to catch grass and trees on fire with a single strike. If this fire is not contained, it can and will spread to other structures.

Damage to Structures

With lightning reaching such high temperatures, if your house or structure gets hit, you need to call the fire department. Lightning takes the path of least resistance. This means that lightning will travel through metal and wood but not brick. Wood cannot handle the high temperatures that lightning produces and thus will combust.
